San Gimignano Lumière is an event organized by the CCN San Gimignano with the contribution of the local administration and important public and private sponsors.
The artistic direction of the entire project is supervised by Mr. Walter Buonfino, an expert in 3D graphics, video mapping and documentary photographer of social issues.
San Gimignano invites you to discover its monumental heritage, those most evocative corners and its squares that relate the story of this place.
Thanks to digital techniques that play on their surfaces, one can finally live in spaces transformed into dynamic and moving scenes.
The visual perception will be altered to such a point where one won’t be able to distinguish the truth from the fiction: the result is an explosion of images that are not only unlimited and emotional but will tell you true and real stories in movement with the magic of a spiral dance of light, colour and sound.
It is a stimulating dialogue between this great medieval beauty and its apparent opposite of modern sophisticated technology usage. There will be presented art and culture with exhibitions and live performances by Italian artists and also a hommage to photography.
Lumière is.. projections and videomapping.
Once arrived in the city, passing through the Porta San Giovanni, you will be accompanied by a laser ray that will take you along a bright and musical way that the historical centre of the city is ready to provide.
The church of San Francesco and the Cathedral (Duomo) will be places where the projections will recount stories and memories of our town.
The square of Sant’Agostino will be the centre of animated projections that will move around all the angles of the square with the most famous horses of our art history that take life and “gallop” on the walls of the square to meet up with real horses, knights in medieval costumes and street artists.
Lumière is.. “The Divine Comedy” and the illustrations of Riccardo Mannelli.
Dante’s triplets will be narrated by Giovanni Terreni and along with the talent of Riccardo Mannelli, the telling and the images will relate the story. All this will be projected in “real time” on the tower and you visitors can be involved with this enormous “natural page” by using yourselves as supports to project your drawings and imprint a personal memory of the city.
Lumière is.. seasons, story of photography and the passage of stories recounted.
The seasons of life, works that talk of ages and times, two photographic studios of San Gimignano, Studio Calvani and Studio Fontanelli host in the city the story of Italian photography: Gianni Berengo Gardin. A great master that shakes the hand of the local talent.
The seasons that pass and leave behind those bits of life, encounters and old flavours ready for renewal. The images will be projected on the walls of the facade of the Duomo, penetrating its depth with games of transparency.
Lumière is.. live art, performance and music.
In Cathedral Square (Piazza del Duomo) 4 artists, with different expressive tendencies, will show their visions on the facade of the church. Each one of them will do their work live, which will be taken and reflected from the canvas onto the whole wall. Live music will accompany the work of the artists in an enchanting, emotional crescendo.
